THE POLL
In last week’s poll, we found out that 35% of you drive to work and 35% of you cycle! Let’s keep working to incease those cycling trips.
This week’s poll is all about next year:
THE TOPIC - YEARLY HIGHLIGHT
This year has been in a word - full. So many amazing things have happened and so many great milestones and achievements here are a few:
Launched The Carbon Architect Newsletter (37 issues strong)
Became an Associate at Thinkspace
Bought a house & renovated
Had our third child!
The problem is with all these great things comes time commitment. It’s been a busy year and I’ve felt a lot of emotions - anxiety, stress, excitement, hope, nervousness. It’s been a roller coast.
All of that to say …. I NEED A BREAK!
I’ve decided to take the month of December off so I can plan my next year, recuperate and relax with my family.
I want to make a difference. I want to help more architects.
I want to help decarbonize the industry.
But if I’m burnt out, that ain’t going to happen.
So this weeks issue will go back through the archives and share some of your favourite issues in case you missed them.

CA28 - Are you responsible?
Architects need to start taking more responsibility.
Who is responsible for emissions in buildings? Architect, owners, developers, contractors? That’s what we take a look at this issue. I think Architects need to be leaders and challenge design briefs and push their engineering teams.
CA30 - Carbon $$$
We need to think like carbon more like money and less like aesthetics.
Designing buildings to a strict budget is what architects do. The client sets the budget and it’s our job to get the building within that number. Well we need start thinking the same way about carbon. Set the budget and hit it.
CA18 - The hidden power of old buildings
Why celebrating old things is key to lowering carbon.
We often celebrate new buildings when we talk about low-carbon design. The reality is that old buildings we fix up are a much better solution. This issue talks about the importance of celebrating old things.

Enjoy your month off! I find your newsletters really interesting, so I'll be looking forward to whatever comes in the future. Thanks for the work you've done on writing these unique posts - hope there's more from you in 2024.
Congratulations on the addition to your family! With three little ones, you're not likely to get a terribly relaxing break, but a change is as good as a rest, according to an old saying. Thanks for all you do, and may you and your family have good health and much joy this holiday season and in the year to come!
